The truth about the Iranian regime’s new president

Image
By Sadegh Pashm-Foroush The day after the announcement of the results of Iran’s sham presidential election, Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei summoned the remaining members of the government of former regime president Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19. In his remarks to them—indirectly addressing new regime president Massoud Pezeshkian—he warned him and reminded him of the “model” of the president in the regime. The supreme leader repeatedly mentioned Raisi and said, “He is truly a model; we must all learn from him.” He then reiterated the concept of “heartfelt belief and practical commitment” to the regime, which Pezeshkian, like all the election candidates, had committed to. Khamenei stated, “Dear Raisi demonstrated as a model that one can possess these mental, heartfelt, and practical qualities as the president of a country and follow them in practice.” Of course, before the sham election, Pezeshkian repeatedly stated that he would continue Raisi...

Iran’s Failed Saber-rattling Shows the Regime’s Weakness

Image
Written by   Mohammad Sadat Khansari On May 27, Iran’s state TV  aired a propaganda  film showing its so-called “313 strategic drone headquarters.”  Tehran’s saber-rattling came amid ongoing protests in many Iranian cities and several operations against regime officials and military sites and was intended to project a hollow show of power. Hours before Tehran’s ridiculous theatrics, many Iranian outlets reported that Mohammad Bagheri, the regime’s Armed Forces Chief of Staff, had visited the “secretive” and highly “secured” drone headquarters. These reports bragged about a drone nest “hundreds of kilometers underground.” The regime’s state TV also acknowledged this base is in “northwest Iran, and our cameraman was not allowed to enter the base.” But some state media have criticized what they called a “clumsy” report that inadvertently “shared information about the drone headquarters whereabouts.” “We flew from the first base of Air Force. I was not aware of th...

Why Iran’s Regime Seized Greek Vessels?

Image
Written by   Shahriar Kia The Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)  seized two Greek oil tankers  in the Strait of Hormuz in an apparent retaliatory move. But all facts on the ground confirm this brazen piracy in line with Tehran’s extortion campaign. The Greek foreign ministry described the seizure of the tankers as “acts of piracy,” and there have been calls for holding Tehran accountable for its maritime terrorism. On Friday, the IRGC forces boarded the Prudent Warrior, a Greek-owned vessel. The second vessel is identified as Delta Poseidon. Tehran seized these vessels a month after Athens seized the Russian-flagged Pegas oil tanker, aka Lana, for carrying sanctioned Iranian oil. The U.S. announced this week it had taken the oil from Lana. In its statement on Friday, the IRGC blatantly declared, “This is the Persian Gulf and has one custodian.” Hossain Shariatmadari, the editor-in-chief of Kayhan daily, applauded the regime’s maritime terrorism and calle...

Mike Pompeo offers momentous support for Iranian opposition

Image
By Struan Stevenson May 23 (UPI) — As the 70th U.S. secretary of state,  Mike Pompeo  wore the mantle that once adorned  Thomas Jefferson , American founding father and first secretary of state, who went on to be president. When Pompeo paid a ground-breaking visit to headquarters of the main democratic Iranian opposition movement, the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK), he may have remembered one of Jefferson’s most famous quotes: “When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty.” Pompeo spent five hours in Ashraf 3 last week, home to thousands of MEK members in Manëz in Albania, where he met the Iranian opposition leader  Maryam Rajavi . Pompeo denounced former President  Barack Obama ‘s deeply flawed nuclear deal with Iran. Known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the deal was signed by Obama in 2015 and torn up by then-President  Donald Trump  and Pompeo in 2018, when the United States unilaterally withdrew. Pompeo famously s...

The 70th United States Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo was received at Ashraf3 in Albania by NCRI’s President-elect Maryam Rajavi, on Monday May 16. Mr. Pompeo spoke to Ashraf 3 residents on the current state of affairs in Iran and the prospects. Excerpts of his speech follow: It is a rare opportunity indeed to be able to speak before so many patriots who have given so much for the nation that they love. I know and saw at the museum over 1,000 former political prisoners of the theocratic regime are gathered here today. And I want to say to you, from a former Secretary of State, a now unemployed diplomat, that I respect you and deeply appreciate all of the work that you have done. The things you have suffered in the name of freedom remind us of what our country was founded on to defend and secure so many years ago. And it’s special, it’s special to be with you. I want also like to recognize President-elect Maryam Rajavi. It is under her leadership, that the National Council o...

Iran: Fifth day of anti-regime protests triggered by high food prices

Image
By Mahmoud Hakamian On Sunday, May 15, people in several Iranian cities took to the streets for the fifth consecutive day of anti-regime protests. These protests are ongoing despite intense security measures and limited internet connectivity. Protests began over the sudden spike in the price of food and other basic goods but have quickly turned into anti-regime protests with calls for regime change. In Shahrekord, Charmahal and Bakhtiari province, protesters were shouting “Death to [Ebrahim] Raisi,” the regime’s president, and “Death to [Ali] Khamenei,” the regime’s supreme leader. In Sureshjan, Charmahal and Bakhtiari province, anti-riot forces were dispatched to disperse the crowd and arrest protesters. The people stood their ground and chanted, “Don’t be afraid, we are together. Defiant youths also gathered in the streets in the city of Nahavand, western Iran, chanting anti-regime slogans, despite the heavy presence of anti-riot units. In recent days, the people have shown grea...
