The truth about the Iranian regime’s new president

Image
By Sadegh Pashm-Foroush The day after the announcement of the results of Iran’s sham presidential election, Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei summoned the remaining members of the government of former regime president Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19. In his remarks to them—indirectly addressing new regime president Massoud Pezeshkian—he warned him and reminded him of the “model” of the president in the regime. The supreme leader repeatedly mentioned Raisi and said, “He is truly a model; we must all learn from him.” He then reiterated the concept of “heartfelt belief and practical commitment” to the regime, which Pezeshkian, like all the election candidates, had committed to. Khamenei stated, “Dear Raisi demonstrated as a model that one can possess these mental, heartfelt, and practical qualities as the president of a country and follow them in practice.” Of course, before the sham election, Pezeshkian repeatedly stated that he would continue Raisi...

Khamenei’s hold on power weakens as inner conflicts grow in Iran’s regime

Image
By   Mahin Horri Faced with increasing global tensions and an explosive society, Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei resorted to a series of political measures to consolidate power and stabilize his regime. The epitome of this campaign was the appointment of  Ebrahim Raisi , a key figure in the 1988 massacre of more than 30,000 political prisoners, as the regime’s president. Khamenei also purged the Majlis (parliament) of his rivals, hoping to form a united fronts against domestic unrests and international pressure. However, little over a year into Raisi’s presidency, the regime is faced growing infighting as officials who were supposedly allies are now at each other’s throats, incriminating each other for the numerous crises that the regime is facing on the socio-economic and political arenas. Disputes between executive, judiciary, and legislative branches, as well as the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), the key pillar of Khamenei’s power, has reached a point that t...

Iran’s water crisis is only getting worse

Image
By Shamsi Saadati In a country with a vast amount of water sources, over 300 cities and thousands of villages across Iran are currently suffering from   severe water shortages . In some areas, people don’t have any access to running water other than tankers that arrive periodically to provide the very minimum. The irony is that during the past few weeks, many cities, towns, and villages throughout Iran have also been hit by   massive floods . This further proves the unfortunate reality that the mullahs’ regime and its destructive policies are at the roots of Iran’s escalating water crisis. Reports from the city of Hamedan in western Iran indicate that during the past five days, there has not been a single drop of running water for the locals. The water in the pipes are dirty and not even adequate for washing purposes, let alone for drinking or cooking. The lake behind the local Ekbatan Dam, which provides water for Hamedan, has dried to nothing but a muddy wetland. In su...

After 20 Years, Negotiations Are No Closer To Ending Iran’s Drive for Nuclear Weapons

Image
Several experts in international security and non-proliferation joined with representatives of the National Council of Resistance of Iran   in Washington , D.C. on Wednesday to discuss the current status of Iran’s nuclear ambitions following the 20 th   anniversary of the first public revelations about the country’s nuclear weapons program. On August 14, 2002, the NCRI held a press conference in Washington to provide details about ongoing work with relevance to nuclear weapons, at clandestine sites near the Iranian cities of Natanz and Arak. The ensuing global scrutiny soon prompted the Iranian regime to acknowledge the existence of those two sites, while the International Atomic Energy Agency initiated an investigation and monitoring process that persists to this day. That investigation has been continually informed by  disclosures from  the NCRI, of which there have been more than 100 over the past 20 years, according to Soona Samsami of the NCRI’s US repres...

Iran’s water shortage crisis reaching dangerously high levels

Image
By Shamsi Saadati The people of Shahrekord in southwest Iran took to the streets on Monday, August 16, protesting severe water shortages in this and other cities of Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari province. Protesters quickly began chanting anti-regime slogans, criticizing the mullahs for their corruption and crimes, and holding the entire apparatus accountable for the nation’s long-standing miseries. The Shahrekord protesters were specifically seen chanting “Death to Raisi!” in a clear reference to regime President   Ebrahim Raisi   and his failed policies one year into his tenure. On this very day, farmers in   Isfahan   were also protesting severe water shortages for the second consecutive day. Among the environmental disasters in Iran due to the mullahs’ four decades of disastrous policies, the   water shortage crisis   stands out, and it has been years in the making. A large portion of Iran’s population suffering from water shortages has triggered nu...
