When the Supreme Leader Speaks, Who Still Listens?

  By: Struan Stevenson Mojtaba Khamenei inherited the most powerful office in the Islamic Republic. Yet six months into his tenure, a question once considered unthinkable is surfacing in Tehran. When the Supreme Leader speaks, who still listens? For almost five decades, the answer was obvious. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini created a system in which factional warfare could rage beneath the surface, provided everyone ultimately bowed to the Supreme Leader. Ali Khamenei preserved that arrangement for more than three decades. Presidents came and went. Clerics competed. The Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) accumulated power. Yet one principle remained sacrosanct. The Supreme Leader had the final word. Today that principle is under strain. MEETING WITH RT. HON. DAVID JONES AND HON. BOB BLACKMAN, MEMBERS OF THE UK HOUSE OF COMMONS

  On February 23, 2023, the Rt. Hon. David Jones, MP, former Secretary of State for Wales and former Brexit Minister of State, and President of the Parliamentary British Committee for Iran Freedom, and the Hon. Bob Blackman, a member of the UK House of Commons, met with  Maryam Rajavi  and held talks. During the meeting, Maryam Rajavi expressed gratitude to the representatives of the people of Britain for their unwavering support for democracy and  human rights in Iran . She pointed out that despite the clerical regime’s repressive measures and various schemes, it has been unable to dismantle the material foundations of the uprising, nor has it succeeded in eradicating the Resistance Units and the courageous youth who serve as its driving force. Debate in UK House of Lords Raises the Need to Support Iran’s Revolution and Resistance, Proscribe IRGC

By Shamsi Saadati On Thursday, February 23,  a short debate  on British-Iranian relations was held in the United Kingdom’s House of Lords at the initiative of Lord David Alton of Liverpool and in the presence of the country’s Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon. In this debate, several key issues were raised, including the designation of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) as a terrorist entity, the regime’s human rights abuses, and the need to support Iran’s democratic alternative to the ruling theocracy.   In his remarks, Lord Alton called out Tehran’s destabilizing activities, including its pursuit of a nuclear weapons program and the IRGC’s role in the war in Ukraine.
